So, you want to be a Predator? It took me two tries to finally get a piece of chest armor I was proud of. Here is how I did it. First, let me give you a list of materials used. I'll try to make this as comprehensive as I can.
- Old bra, or cheap bra. Needs to be foam formed, not just cloth.
- Craft foam
- Some form of air dry clay. The less is shrinks after drying, the better.
- EVA foam
- Some form of fastener
- Rare earth magnets (for cannon/medpack)
You want the bra you choose to be foam formed, not simply cloth. It needs to hold the boob form without help. Also, I chose a strapless. If you're in the states, you can get new and cheap bras from TJMaxx, Ross, etc. Next, use fabric draped on your form to make template for your armor.
Use the template to cut out the craft foam. Pin in place.
Repeat as needed.
Once you are satisfied, hot glue in place. Be careful not to hot glue the armor to your dress form.
Add details (if you want).
I decided to make the facehugger 'sacs' flat instead of bulbous. My reasoning is that this is an actual facehugger, and she bleached it like a trophy, so it would shrivel up in the process. Feel free to make yours more 3 dimensional if you wish. Also, use foam to map out where the legs will be.
For this next part, I rested my dress form on the floor. You could also use a table, if your dress form will cooperate. Use the air dry clay and sculpt your facehugger.
When mine dried, all of the pieces fell off. It's fine, really. Just hot glue them back into place. Also, mine shrunk a bit more than I had hoped, so I had to use hot glue to fill in some gaps.
That's it for part one. Part two will finish it off!
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, let me know! Until then, keep cosplaying!
